The Bagri Foundation is proud to support the study day on the work of Brian Houghton Hodgson, the ‘Father of Himalayan Studies’ at the Royal Asiatic Society (RAS). Hodgson, a forgotten man in his own lifetime, lived in Nepal from 1820 to 1843. The event explores how Hodgson undertook a study of the culture, natural history and religion of Nepal as well as the country’s changing political and constitutional landscape.

The study day includes an exhibition of the Hodgson material in the RAS collections, lectures from David Lowther, Dr Mark Watson, Professor David Gellner and Professor Surya Subedi and a book launch with Charles Allen.
